For side sleepers who wake up with a stiff neck

Every neck pillow is built around your neck. On your side, you’re lying on your ear. This one has a pocket for it.

When you lie on your side, your ear takes the full weight of your head. So all night your head tilts a few degrees to get off it, without you ever knowing, and your neck holds that bend for eight hours. That is the stiffness you wake up with. The Yonder Ridge Pillow is a contoured memory foam pillow with a pocket exactly where your ear goes. Your head rests level on the foam. Your ear sits in the pocket and carries nothing, so there is nothing to tilt away from. And you replace nothing. Use it on its own, or set it on top of the pillow you already sleep on.

  • Your head rests on the foam, not on your ear
  • Nothing to tilt away from, so your neck stays level all night
  • Use it alone or stack it on your own pillow, so the height is yours
  • Flip it over and the pocket is ready for the other side
  • Sixty nights to wake up looser, or your money back

You have tried every pillow except this one.The wavy one, the firm one, the soft one.

Most people who land here have a closet full of pillows. The contour one with the curve for your neck. The firm one a chiropractor recommended. The soft one bought after the firm one made it worse. Each one felt right in the store and left you just as stiff within a week. That is not bad luck, and it is not your age. Every one of them was designed around a neck on a diagram. None of them were designed around the thing your head is actually lying on.

  • Contour, firm or soft, your head still lands on your ear
  • Your ear still takes the weight, so you still tilt
  • Softer is worse, your head just sinks further onto it

Three ordinary pillows side by side, a contour pillow and two standard pillows, each crossed out with a red X

Your ear takes the weight. So your head tilts off it. All night. The red is where the stiffness starts.

This is side sleeping from the inside. The full weight of your head sits on your ear, and the pillow pushes straight back. Your body does not like that, so it moves. Your head tips a few degrees to take the weight off the ear. You slide half off the curve the pillow was built for. And your neck holds that angle for eight straight hours. By morning it has set. That is why the first half hour of your day goes to rolling your shoulders before you can look left. Past fifty you move less in your sleep, so whatever angle you settle into, you stay in longer.

  • The full weight of your head, on your ear, all night
  • Your head tilts to escape it, and your neck bends with it
  • Eight hours in that bend is what you wake up with

Same sleeper. Same side. Nothing to tilt away from.A pocket exactly where your ear goes.

The Yonder Ridge Pillow is a contoured memory foam pillow with a pocket cut where your ear lands. You can see it in the cutaway. Your head rests on the foam at the cheek and jaw, and your ear sits in the pocket, touching nothing. With no weight on the ear, there is nothing for your head to escape, so it settles level and stays there until morning. And you do not have to give up the pillow you like. It is compact on purpose. Use it on its own if you sleep low, or set it on top of your usual pillow if you sleep high.

  • Head on the foam, ear in the pocket, neck level
  • No tilt, so no bend held for eight hours
  • Alone or stacked, the height is yours

The first night

Unroll it and let it breathe for a few hoursIt arrives compressed for shipping. The foam fills out on its own.
Lie on your usual side and let your ear find the pocketYour ear should sit inside the pocket with nothing touching it. If it lands on the edge, slide the pillow up or down an inch.
Sleep the way you normally doYou do not have to hold a position. If you roll onto your back, it works like a regular contoured pillow.
Like to sleep raised up? Stack itThe compact size means it sits on top of your regular pillow. Your usual height, plus the pocket.

After that

Turn your head in the morningThat is the whole test. No half hour of loosening up, no turning your whole body to look behind you.
Slip it into a loose pillowcase and forget about itWash the case with your sheets. The pillow itself needs nothing.

If you wake up stiff, you have probably already tried the obvious things: a contour pillow, a firmer one, a softer one, a rolled towel under your neck. None of that changes where your head is actually resting at night, which is on your ear. The pocket gives your ear somewhere to go, so your head stays level and you can go back to the side you actually like sleeping on.

First 5 a.m. launch in two years without a sore ear

I fish three or four mornings a week and I was getting to the ramp already tired, because my left ear got so sore I had spent months sleeping on the wrong side. Tried this more out of curiosity than anything. My ear sits right in the pocket and I don’t feel the pillow at all. Slept on my left side, woke up with no pain, and was on the water by five. Ordered a second one for the camper.

Straight answers

The things people ask us before they buy.

These are the questions that actually come in, mostly from side sleepers who have already tried a few neck pillows and want to know why this one would be different. If yours is not here, email helpyondergear@gmail.com and a person will answer it.

Because every one of those was designed around your neck, and on your side you are not lying on your neck. You are lying on your ear. It takes the full weight of your head, so your head tilts off it all night and your neck holds that bend until morning. Contour, firm or soft, they all leave your ear under your head. The Ridge gives your ear a pocket, so there is nothing to tilt away from and your head stays level. If you are not waking up looser within 60 nights, we refund you.
Softer makes it worse. Your head sinks further, so your ear takes even more of the weight and you tilt more to escape it. The fix is not a softer surface. It is giving your ear somewhere to go.
No. It is compact on purpose. Use it on its own if you like to sleep low, or set it on top of the pillow you already use, ear side up, and keep the height you are used to. It stays put because your head is on it.
It is deliberately compact, and that is a feature. On its own it gives a normal side-sleeper height. If you are a bigger frame or you like to sleep raised up, set it on top of your regular pillow. You keep the height you are used to and add the pocket. Most people find their setup on the first night. If it is not right for you, the 60-night trial covers it.
Most of those are a flat foam square with a hole punched in it. They take the pressure off your ear but do nothing to hold your head level, so your neck still ends up bent. The Ridge is contoured memory foam that supports your head and neck, with the pocket built in. Alone or stacked, your head is on a real pillow and your ear is in the pocket.
The pocket is large enough that there is room to shift. Slide the pillow an inch up or down so your ear rests fully inside it. Once you have found your spot you will find it again without thinking about it. If you sleep on either side, flip the pillow over and the pocket is ready for the other ear.
Yes. On your back it works like any contoured pillow. The pocket is under the crown of your head and you will not notice it. You do not have to hold a position all night.
That is one of the main reasons people buy it. The pocket gives the device room so it is not being pushed into your ear all night, and you are not waking up with a sore spot where it sat. It is also a lot harder to lose a hearing aid in the sheets when it is still in your ear.
Many people with a persistent tender spot or bump on the ear rim have a pressure-related condition called CNH, and the standard advice from skin doctors is to stop sleeping on that ear. That is exactly what this pillow makes possible without giving up your side. It does not treat the spot itself, it takes the pressure off it so it is not being pressed on every night. If you have a sore that is not healing, see your doctor.
The foam is a slow-recovery type that is cooler than the old dense foam you may remember, and a light cotton pillowcase over it keeps it that way. It arrives rolled, so let it air out for a few hours after you open it. Any faint new-foam smell is gone by the first night for most people.
Use a pillowcase and wash that with your sheets, the same as any pillow. If the foam itself ever needs it, spot clean with a damp cloth and let it air dry fully before you use it.
Years, with normal use. The foam holds its shape and there is nothing to replace or top up. If it ever loses its shape sooner than that, email us.
Yes. The foam is fine in a car, a cabin or a guest room. If you sleep away from home a lot, most people keep one at home and one for the road rather than hauling it back and forth.
Yes. Use one that is a little loose rather than tight so the pocket keeps its shape and your ear still drops into it cleanly.
Shipping is free on every order with no minimum, and most arrive within 5 to 7 business days. Sleep on it for 60 nights. If you are not waking up looser, tell us and we refund the full amount. Nothing to pack up and send back.
